In the Land of Recruiting, Build Relationships that Matter

02 Nov 2016 Bryan Shaw

Soon after graduating with a B.S. degree in Business Administration, I landed a job at a Milwaukee-based staffing firm and quickly fell in love with the idea of being paid to help others find work and better their lives.

To give you a clear understanding of what it is that I do, let me offer a very simple explanation. I help people looking for work find better opportunities. Whether one is looking to advance their career, work for a company without glass ceilings or simply find employment that’s closer to home, my team and I work tirelessly to ensure a quick, enjoyable and overtly personal recruitment process. This was my passion ten years ago when I started, and it remains my passion still.

Often times in the recruiting world, people tend to forget that our work is built around forming successful human relationships. This gives way to basic courtesy’s being overlooked, politeness being thrown out the window and genuine interaction to be void where prohibited. Most Recruiters only care about the numbers and not the people, and as far as my team and I are concerned, that is a huge mistake. Sure, you always want to find the right candidate for the roll, make a hire and move on. However, to do so at the expense of being a decent person is far from ideal and less-than successful.

Do you want to know the trick to being a better Recruiter? It’s simple, and all you have to do is listen and care. If you don’t hear your recruit’s needs, if you can’t find them what they are looking for because you chose not to care about what they want, then you’ll find yourself in a hole, with no decent prospects on the line. Trust me when I say that through listening to, and caring about, the candidates I work with, I’ve been able to build successful relationship pipelines that often turn into successful hires for STS Technical Services’ clients.

There are too many staffing firms out there that only focus on numbers. All they care about is submittals and hires, and this can lead to poor performance and negative reviews about a company and its staffing team.

So, rather than hone in on the metrics, try establishing a true relationship with candidates; something we at STS Technical Services pride ourselves on.  If you do, job seekers will not only be more receptive to working with you and your team, it will yield increased hires, more referrals, better departmental performance and heightened brand awareness.

If you’re looking to establish a relationship with a Recruiter that truly values your personal career goals, take a look at our online jobs board, find a position you’re interested, and call and STS Technical Services’ Recruiter at 1-800-447-0515. My team and I will be more than happy to help you find exactly what you’re looking for!
